BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
SKYLARK FARM , MP 25 IN NELSON COUNTY , VIRGINIA
SUNDAY AFTERNOON JUNE 13, 2010 FROM NOON TO 5 PM

NOON until 2 PM PICNIC ON ROUND TOP MOUNTAIN WITH 360 DEGREE VIEWS AT 3300 FOOT ELEVATION OR BY THE LAKE OF THIS 365 ACRE FARM FRONTING ON THE PARKWAY AND THE NELSON SCENIC LOOP.

PROGRAM

2:00 PM Compelling stories told by representatives of the National Park Service, Friends of Blue Ridge Parkway and Washington and Lee University, along with remarks from the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, Oakland Museum and the Rockfish Valley Foundation.

2:45 PM Principal Speaker: Carlton Abbott, renowned Virginia architect and artist will speak on Creating the Parkway Idea. He is the son of Stanley Abbott, first chief architect of the Parkway and its first Superintendent. Carlton Abbott opened business with his father in 1965, where he learned his father’s talent for blending architecture with the physical and cultural landscape of a site. His contributions to innovative architectural design have earned him induction into the prestigious College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Among his Parkway projects includes a model program to join the Parkway and local developers in minimizing the visual impact of neighboring construction, and also the design of the Blue Ridge Music Center at Fisher’s Peak (Milepost 213).

Enjoy Sunday afternoon at Skylark which is rarely open to the public and celebrate the Blue Ridge Parkway. Listen to local musicians and their mountain music, view historical exhibits, meet local authors and leaders of Parkway support organizations. Gift shop and much much more.
